UFL Greats: DeDe Dorsey, RB, Las Vegas Locomotives

by UFL Writer Tim Bernard

ATLANTA, GA--  Las Vegas Locomotives's tailback DeDe Dorsey was a force to reckon with during his tenure in the desert. Dorsey is arguably one of the most dynamic tailbacks in United Football League (UFL) history. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2006 following a stellar collegiate career at Lindenwood University as a two-time NAIA All-American.

Dorsey would enter professional football as an unheralded player, compared to players from Power 5 programs, on the Bengals roster, leading to his release from the club. However, the determined Dorsey would find his way back into the NFL, signing with the Indianapolis Colts before returning to the Bengals for three seasons. While a member of the Colts, Dorsey would assist the franchise in a Super Bowl XLI victory over the Chicago Bears.

Dorsey would join the Las Vegas Locomotives of the UFL for the 2009 season. With his championship experience, Dorsey would make significant contributions for the Locomotives as the ballclub capture the 2009 UFL Championship with a 20-17 overtime victory over the Florida Tuskers. In the game, Dorsey would steal the show with a brilliant 11 carry, 66 yards, and two touchdown performances to earn the championship game MVP award.

Following a short stint with the Detroit Lions of the NFL, Dorsey would return to the Las Vegas Locomotives as the team began its championship defense. Just as they had done a year prior, the Locomotives would again capture a league championship, this time with an impressive 23-20 repeat win over the Tuskers.

Dorsey would return to play a final season with the Locomotives in 2012. However, this season would be his last in the league as the league would shut its doors for ten seasons.

Dorsey had achieved some impressive accomplishments with three professional football championships and a championship game MVP award throughout his professional football career. With these accomplishments, he deserves his recognition as one of the great players in the brief history of the UFL.

Congratulations to DeDe Dorsey for a great UFL career!
