League Forced To Begin Focusing Efforts On 2021
ATLANTA, GA-- The National Gridiron League (NGL), America's Premier Arena Football League, announced Thursday that the league will begin focusing efforts on the 2021 season due to the many unknowns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic and the lack of definitive information as to economy reopening guidelines.
"COVID-19 is dominating the news and our thoughts. This is a dynamic situation that requires both diligence and thoughtfulness," said NGL Chairman Joe McClendon III. "There are many critical factors that are out of our control, we would be best serving the health and stability of the NGL community by taking a proactive approach and focusing our talents and our resources toward preparing for an outstanding 2021 season. The health and safety of our players, coaches, and fans is the top priority of our board of directors."
Among the many issues facing the NGL in determining the feasibility of continuing with launching the 2020 season included the difficulties to develop a modified schedule once arenas and stadiums re-opened, the availability of COVID-19 testing for players and staff members, the lack of consistency in state guidelines amongst the league's eleven states of operations and the league's determination not to cause undue stress upon local health systems.
"We are committed to the growth and development of the National Gridiron League and the well-being of our players, fans, and league staff members," McClendon added. "During this unprecedented time, it is vital for everyone to listen to the advice of government and health officials so that we may return to a semblance of normalcy as soon as possible. There has been no determination on when gatherings of 50 or more will be allowed which makes moving forward this summer difficult."
Among the positives moving forward are the possiblities for expansion, new investment partners, and new national partnerships that have the league really excited as the focus sets on 2021.
